| Rachel Essex trained in visual art at Camberwell Art School and physical theatre in Paris. Also an actress and accordionist, Rachel diversified and started designing jewellery some years ago after inheriting the inspiration to do so in the form of her Romanian Grandmother's sewing box containing vintage charms, beads and broken necklaces.
Wishing to give these treasures new life, Rachel began incorporating them into pieces for friends, combining them with contemporary components and vintage ones. These were sourced from Paris ateliers, London vintage fairs and as far away as Russia and America.
The current collection is called Atomic Annie and is inspired by Nature's apples and lightening bolts, Science's molecular shapes, Science Fiction's robots and the kind of girl who would wear them together; Atomic Annie. Components date from the 1950's through to the 1980's and all the pieces are either unique or very limited number. |
