GALA Curios is the creation of Sydney based designer Jasmine O’Loughlin. Holding a Bachelor of Design from The College of Fine Arts in Sydney Jasmine draws on her background in jewellery design, textile design and art history to produce works which reflect a multi-disciplinary approach to wearable design. Inspired by the duality & illusion of Surrealism and its most notorious muse, Gala Dali, GALA Curios are objects that toy with unusual juxtapositions of form & materials to manifest a surreal reflection of our everyday world. GALA’s signature a rarefied technique – dipping all manner of sculpted textiles, paper & natural flora into baths of 24ct Gold and Copper appears in each collection to miraculously transform these ‘everyday’ materials into precious jewellery works. The success of GALA Curios’ first collection catalysed the establishment of Jasmine’s solo label GALA Curios in early 2010. INTO THE FOLD is GALA Curios’ third collection, exploring the folded and crushed surfaces of traditional Japanese origami and more contemporary sculptural textiles. Folded paper forms have been rematerialised by the application of 24ct Gold to their surface, while 3D rapid prototyping has been used to translate the precise geometry of pleated textiles into solid metal jewellery forms. This is a collection aimed at blurring the divide between the traditional demarcations of clothing and jewellery.

Jasmine’s considerable & varied design talents were proven early, working in the footwear & accessories design departments of cult fashion label Ksubi and later up-and-coming footwear brand Beau Coops. An invitation to collaborate on a jewellery range for Rosemount Australian Fashion Week in 2009 alongside Australian fashion designer Marnie Skillings, saw the launch of Jasmine’s successful solo career in jewellery design. Alongside her own design work, Jasmine is now a lecturer in the design faculty of The College of Fine Arts, Sydney.
