Drusy Ring - White Gold £1380.00 By Conroy and Wilcox View details Slate Grey Diamond Ring £1740.00 By Conroy and Wilcox View details | Gillian Conroy and Danica Wilcox met in 2002 while working
at Conde Nast Publications in New
York – the parent company of VOGUE. Through their experiences and contacts in the fashion
business they both developed a keen interest in the art of jewelry so they
decided to pursue their studies with independent craftsmen in New
York and Jaipur,
India. In January 2006, the first collection of Conroy & Wilcox
was unveiled.
Their designs are simple and organic, using unusual stones and pearls
that are one-of-a-kind. Their inspiration is to make new from old, to collaborate with goldsmiths in developing countries such as India and South America using traditional techniques in a modern way.
"We aspire to create heirloom fine jewelry that has a subtle
and contemporary feeling to it. We like
jewelry that feels personal and since each piece is finished by hand it has an
imprint of the craftsman so that there are not two pieces exactly the same."
The designers choose unusual colors, cuts and clarity of precious gemstones and pearls that have a beauty and sensibility. Some of the gems exhibit unusual optical effects known as phenomena and some have inclusions that add character and individuality. Inclusions are also an intriguing hallmark of authenticity that verifies a gem’s natural relationship to the earth.
Conroy and Wilcox carefully research the sources of their materials using recycled gold from their own workshop and reputable dealers in New York. Colored gemstones are purchased from the native markets of Brazil, East Africa, India, Madagascar and Sri Lanka. They do not buy Burmese Rubies that are mined in Myanmar and their pearls come from Hong Kong, the South Seas and Tahiti. All diamonds are conflict-free and brought directly from a fourth generation Indian dealer in New York.
The aim for the future development of the company is to promote the relationship between traditional metalsmithing and modern design aesthetics. This will be achieved by continuing to work with entrepreneur-artisans in India, Asia, Africa and South America.
With this in mind, Conroy and Wilcox support the organization, AID TO ARTISANS whose goal is to provide economically sustainable and social benefits in an environmentally and culturally sensitive manner.
