Jewellery Care

Your jewellery should last a long time if treated correctly. We recommend regular cleaning of your jewellery to retain it's beauty.

With the exception of pearls and emeralds, jewellery should be cleaned in warm soapy water and carefully brushed with a soft brush (such as a babies toothbrush). Dry the jewellery with a soft cloth afterwards. Hot water and harsh chemicals should be avoided at all times. Pearls, emeralds and opals should be cleaned using a soft dry cloth. Valuable fine jewellery should be taken to a jeweller to be professionally cleaned.

Never expose your jewellery to chemicals and acids such as household chemicals, perfumes and hairspray as these can cause the jewellery to disintegrate or discolour.

Rings should be removed when washing your hands as particles of soap may become lodged in stone settings and in any gaps. Do not wear jewellery in the shower because the soap can make the metal and stones appear dull by leaving a film over the surface.

Tarnish is accelerated in humid and salty environments especially with silver. If you have a particularly humid environment, store your jewellery with a desiccant crystal packet.

Pearls can dull easily and quickly with contact to perfume, natural body oils and perspiration. After wearing pearls, wipe them with a soft, damp cloth to remove any traces of body oils and perfume. This will help to retain their beauty.

Avoid wearing jewellery when playing sport, on the beach, swimming, doing housework or gardening to prevent scratching and damage.

Check for signs of wear and tear regularly, especially on catches and joints. Stone settings can become loose over time, especially if they have been hit against a hard surface or snagged on clothing.

Jewellery should be kept in separate pouches to avoid damage. Chains should be fastened and stored flat.
